Australia eliminate Denmark 1-0 and advance to the round of 16

Australia upset Denmark 1-0 on Wednesday to advance to the World Cup knockout stage for the first time since 2006. Mathew Leckie scored an incredible solo goal in the victory.
The Australians held Denmark to a 0-0 draw at Al Janoub Stadium before breaking through in the 60th minute when Leckie burst into space and wrong-footed defender Joakim Maehle. He then fired low past goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to claim all three points.
Australia managed to hold on to second place in Group D, behind France but ahead of Tunisia, who were leading the French by one point in the dying stages of Wednesday’s other game. Denmark finished bottom of the group with one point.
Argentina beat Poland 2-0 to set up a round of 16 clash with Australia

Argentina advanced to the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 with a 2-0 victory over Poland on Wednesday, despite captain Lionel Messi seeing a first-half penalty saved at Stadium 974.
Argentina was able to dominate the match, with both goals coming in the second half. This victory gives Argentinians a chance to reach the round of 16, where it will face Australia on Sunday.
Just a minute into the second half, Argentina took the lead when Alexis Mac Allister scored on the end of Nahuel Molina’s cross. Polish keeper Wojciech Szczesny was beaten by the shot.
Argentina managed to keep the ball well while Poland struggled to create any chances of their own.
The second goal was the result of some patient play by Argentina. This has resulted in Julian Alvarez getting a through ball from Enzo Fernandez and scoring a goal in the box.
Messi missed a penalty

Wojciech Szczesny saved a penalty from Lionel Messi in Poland’s 1-0 victory over Argentina. Szczesny’s brave save kept Argentina from conceding an early goal.
However, they couldn’t find a way to take advantage in the first half. At the break, the score is still 0-0 – a result that would have been far from fair if Argentina had been the better team.
As things stand, Poland advanced the group with 4 points and will face France in the last 16, while Argentina finished first and will face runner-up Australia in the next round after Mexico defeated Saudi Arabia 2-1 in the other game in the group.
Mexico missed out on qualifying for the last 16

Mexico’s Luis Chavez celebrates with his teammates after scoring their second goal against Saudi Arabia
Mexico narrowly missed out on qualification for the knockout stages of the World Cup after beating Saudi Arabia 2-1 on Wednesday.
However, despite the narrow margin of defeat, Mexico is still a goal difference behind Poland, which eliminated them from the World Cup.
In the second half, Henry Martin and Luis Chavez scored quickfire goals to put Mexico on course to reach the knockout stages. Uriel Antuna also scored, but the effort was disallowed for offside.
In stoppage time, Saudi Arabia got back on the scoreboard through Salem Al-Dawsari. Mexico finished level on points with Poland, who lost to group winners Argentina 2-0.
This gave them a lower goal difference, meaning Poland advanced over Mexico. Mexico lost its chance to qualify for the World Cup for the seventh straight time since 1994.
Saudi Arabia were also eliminated after finishing bottom of the groups on 3 points.
